The Influential Nonprofit

Dana Litwin: Building volunteer and community engagement

Episode Notes

Since 2002 Dana has guided organizations in California's Silicon Valley and worldwide to produce breakthrough talent and community engagement programs. She is a popular presenter at the Points of Light National Conference on Volunteering and Service (USA), and countless regional conferences and webinars.

Dana is the creator of the premiere web series “Priceless Advice for Leaders of Volunteers.” She is the Past President of the Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement (AL!VE), and a founder of the multi-sector National Alliance for Volunteer Engagement.

Key Takeaways:

“Most nonprofits do not recognize the foundational, strategic value of the volunteer engagement, volunteer events and activities and programs that they’re doing. ”

“Volunteers… are not free. You have to invest in marketing to get a return, you have to invest in fundraising. You have to invest time, resources and talent and have someone with real experience and skill doing those jobs…”

“Every interaction is an invitation to stay or invitation to go.”
